Detailed Itinerary

Your 5-Day Birding & Gorilla Adventure

Day 1

Arrival in Entebbe & Wetland Birding Experience

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by your professional birding safari guide. After a short briefing, transfer to your hotel near Lake Victoria. Depending on arrival time, enjoy an introductory birding excursion in the Entebbe Botanical Gardens and nearby wetlands. Expect sightings of Great Blue Turaco, African Fish Eagle, Pied Kingfisher, Black-headed Heron, and Malachite Kingfisher. The lakeshore and swamp ecosystems around Entebbe offer excellent bird watching opportunities and serve as a warm-up for the days ahead.

Overnight in Entebbe.
Day 2

Shoebill Stork Tracking & Transfer to Lake Mburo

Start early for a canoe or motorized boat excursion into the Mabamba Swamp, one of the best places in Africa to see the prehistoric looking shoebill stork in its natural habitat. This rare and iconic bird is highly sought after by international birders. Other wetland species include African Jacana, Papyrus Gonolek, Swamp Flycatcher, and Blue Swallow (seasonal). After this extraordinary birding experience, drive to Lake Mburo National Park, passing through Uganda's beautiful countryside, cattle farms, and rolling hills.

Overnight near Lake Mburo.
Day 3

Walking Safari & Transfer to Bwindi

Begin the day with a guided walking safari inside Lake Mburo National Park one of the few parks in Uganda where walking safaris are allowed. Accompanied by an armed ranger, you may encounter Zebras, Impalas, Topis, Giraffes, and Buffaloes. Lake Mburo is also rich in birdlife including African Finfoot, Saddle-billed Stork, and various raptors. After lunch, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, driving through the scenic Kigezi Highlands often called the "Switzerland of Africa" due to its terraced hills and misty valleys.

Overnight in Bwindi.
Day 4

Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Forest

Today is the highlight of your safari the exclusive Gorilla Habituation Experience. Unlike standard gorilla trekking (which allows only one hour), gorilla habituation allows you to spend up to four hours with a semi-habituated gorilla family alongside researchers and rangers. This offers deeper insight into gorilla behavior, social structure, feeding patterns, and conservation efforts. The trek can be challenging as it involves hiking through dense rainforest terrain, but the reward is an intimate and life changing wildlife encounter with endangered mountain gorillas. Bwindi is also a paradise for bird watchers, home to many Albertine Rift endemic species.

Overnight in Bwindi.
Day 5

Return to Entebbe & Equator Stop

After breakfast, begin your scenic drive back to Entebbe. Stop at the Uganda Equator crossing for photography and souvenir shopping. Arrive in Entebbe in time for your departure flight or optional overnight stay.

End of safari.
