The Four Sectors of Bwindi
Bwindi is divided into four distinct trekking sectors, each offering unique terrain, difficulty levels, and gorilla groups.
1. Buhoma (Northwest)
The original and most accessible sector. Ideal for first time trekkers. Home to the famous Mubare, Habinyanja, and Rushegura families.
- Steepness: Gentle, relatively easy.
- Best for: First-time trekkers, families, and older travelers.
- Highlights: Closest to Queen Elizabeth NP; historic Mubare group.
2. Ruhija (East)
A birder’s paradise at 2,300m elevation. Trek the Oruzogo or Mukiza families through steep, misty trails.
- Steepness: Moderate to steep.

3. Rushaga (South)
The largest sector with 8+ habituated families, including the massive Nshongi group. Offers the only Gorilla Habituation Experience.
