Bwindi
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to over 450 mountain gorillas nearly half the world’s population.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park spans 331 km² of ancient montane rainforest in southwest Uganda. Its name “impenetrable” comes from its dense network of vines, shrubs, and trees. But within this wilderness lies one of Earth’s most profound wildlife encounters: sitting face to face with a mountain gorilla family.
Bwindi is divided into four distinct trekking sectors, each offering unique terrain, difficulty levels, and gorilla groups.
The original and most accessible sector. Ideal for first time trekkers. Home to the famous Mubare, Habinyanja, and Rushegura families.
A birder’s paradise at 2,300m elevation. Trek the Oruzogo or Mukiza families through steep, misty trails.
The largest sector with 8+ habituated families, including the massive Nshongi group. Offers the only Gorilla Habituation Experience.
Challenging but breathtaking. Trek the Nkuringo family along steep slopes with panoramic views of the Virunga Volcanoes.
Bwindi offers a wide range of stays, from luxurious jungle lodges to comfortable midrange camps and affordable community-run options.
All lodges are strategically located within Bwindi’s four main sectors, offering easy access to nearby gorilla trekking start points and breathtaking views of the surrounding rainforest.
